I just got a new oscar about a week ago. Hes about 5 inches and was a happy camper, always begging for food and coming to the window. Until my jerk of a green terror started to attack him, now his scales are really damaged, 1 damaged eye, his fins nipped and only 1 of the fins is still moving. I removed the culprit to a single tank. How can i help my new friend and is there still hope for survival? I added salt and melafix. Any more advice?

Turn up the temp alittle i heard helps to speed the healing process. some stress coat would be a good idea.

can you post a photo?

Every injury is different but I had an O presumably get stuck in some bogwood and got scratched up pretty bad. I healed in less than a week.

You will be amazed how quickly they heal - they are amazingly resilient. Keep your water pristine and I bet he'll be fine.

it don't always work out mixing new fish. I have had problems myself and lost fish for the same reason. what looks like a happy tank can all turn nasty very quickly. is the fish breathing normal? or heavy? If its breathing ok I would as advised keep the temp around 28c. melafix is fine for the sort of damage done in fights. it will help heal the fins and eye, also fight off any infection. you have done pretty much all you can really by moving them to separate tanks and starting the right treatment. most fish will stop feeding with melafix so don't continue treatment any longer than needed. they are pretty strong fish so you have a good chance all will be ok.

As always it pays great dividens if your water is in good condition and clean but making sure it is tip top condition when there is an injury will help the healing process all that much better......
