These fish have been in the tank for about a month and a half. It was intended to be used as a QT tank.
The fish got along fine, minus the rare nipping, until yesterday. I woke up this morning and found Emmy (the smaller of the two), with split fins and what looks like scrape marks on both sides of her. She looks like someone tried to de-scale her before making her a meal. In the spots where she's missing scales, the skin is sloughing off. I don't know whether it's her slime coat, or just damaged skin. I don't know for certain that Peabody did this, or if she has some sort of infection...but I've never seen anything like this. I checked with a flashlight, and I don't see anything like velvet, and I don't see anything fuzzy like flex. She's simply damaged. I hope she doesn't get infected.
I'm going to go purchase a larger tank tomorrow, most likely 125g. My concern is that this damage is going to cause an infection like flex. She's sulking on the bottom of the tank, inside the decor.
I drew with hot pink around the damage so that you can identify it better (in the first photo). As you can see in the other photos, the damage is on both sides.
I thought that if paired at such a young age, that these two would get along?
