After visiting a few aquarium sellers shop and seeing the flimsy crap their trying to off load off stand wise not to mention the prices

I decided to go for a drive and ended up with this lot

and that was how it began

lets try the new toy hey these bits fit

lets try some more

yee haa it fits

ok so far now legs

and finally the bottom braces and whalla

I'll cut the bottom shelf out tomorrow and seal the lot ready for the pretty stuff

materials used

top 17mm form ply

90x35 structural pine

75 mm stainless decking screws

grand cost so far $130

shops want 250 for a basic stand

cheers Gazza

Thanks for your kind words

Funny thing is I'm a fitter by trade not a carpenter lol

But for those who want to have a go the only tools I used were

mitre saw ( as in pic ) cheap as chips these days $89 au

builders square $ 12 au

cordless drill forgot how much?

tape measure

I used a level but no real need , I think the manufacturers painted the bubble in the middle lol

pva glue

thats it

I'll post more pics closer to he finished cabinet

then diy sump to suit

cheers Gazza

very good job.
And like commented above, if you only got the craftmanship, the right tools and are allowed the space to work (Paul, i see your point) it is very easy...
Looks very professional and sturdy.
How long did it take you to put it together? (not counting the "getting the supplies"-time)

And what are the dimensions of the cabinet as it is now?

I started 11am took the last pic 5.30 pm with a 1/2 hour break for food so in total 6 hrs
@ a casual pace stop for a smoke etc nearly forgot another half hour waiting for a mate to come over to turn it over ( not that heavy just awkward )
It was great fun

Pissed off today went to buy the paneling from the hardware's sister store closer to home

Sorry Sir we don't stock that particular item

Ahh well more time for planning

cheers Gaz
