The climate is very bipolar =P and im pretty sure all states in australia cant have koi big fines apply like $50000 or somthing because they are a noxious fish species.

I have been wanting a pond for myself just never got the right time to build one and I'm not sure i want to spend on paying someone to do it so I'd just probably wait for the right time for me to make on so im all for it! go for it. I think every fish lover should eventually have a pond since it has a more natural feel to it. though if you want it to be low maintenance put something like goldfish in it so you don't have to clean it much every so often plus they pretty much survive almost all weather conditions as well, just make sure they are properly fed.
