Aquarium SAFE Silicon apparently isn't so safe for people while it is curing.....All the RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) adhesives I've used smelled like vinegar.......$5.00 for a standard 10 oz caulking tube....mfgs like GE, or DAP

Where did you get your RTV smallfry?......I haven't learned anything yet today

Well i might just have screwed up royally!!!! and spent alot of money in the process. I sooo didn't take my old seal off. It was a very small leak i could see. I went over it with silicone but didn't take the old off. Thanks to a guy at a LFS that said not too. I guess this is what i get for not looking here first!!! Now i don't know if i should take it all off and begin at square one or just try it out. The fumes are soo bad i couldn't see made my eyes water and burn and i could not breathe!!! wish i would have seen this earlier! or just posted to ask!!!!

Thank you! We never could find the leak. The tank has framing on the bottom and it was filling up and dripping over that. So we used this to remove ALL of the old silicone and re-seal the tank. We did end up prying the framing off too but it went right back on with a small line of silicone after the tank itself had cured and passed a water test.

Great information! The pictures are super helpful!

Wow. This is pretty straight forward and simple. I've turned down some real nice tanks on Craigslist because they leaked. No more. lol I'll have to give this a shot.
Thanks for the tutorial.
