Oscar_the_Grouch created the topic: My Homemade stand thats a work in progress

I am in the process of making my own stand for my 6 foot tank. I have bought all of the wood (4x4, 2x4, 1/4" oak plywood, unfinished cabinet door). I will be using the 4x4 as the main base to hold all the weight on the ends and middle. The 2x4's will be used to stabilize the main supports. The notch in the top section is to fit along a wierd wall that protrudes out 5". I will be keeping a 30 gallon tank under the main tank to hopefully breed feeder fish for my oscar. I will be taking pics though out the process. The pics below are the drawings I made to figure out how much wood I would need so I could keep cost down and not to make return trips to Menards.

Just looking @ your plans one word springs to mind OVERKILL sorry but 4x4 no need :( and the measurements on your plan don't add up ????

They do if you add the 1/4" plywood for the sides. I would rather have it overkill than not strong enough.

I like it! Nice drawings too. It is overkill but if thats what gives you peace of mind then to each their own. :) Good luck and look forward to updates!

Update of what I got done this evening in 2 hours. The step you are referring to will be a 5 inch over hang on the back slide. It will only have the fish food and stuff on it.

Had a busy few weeks since my first post. Nasal surgery put a damper on my progress. Sunday afternoon I was able to get my plywood cut and tonight before I came to work I was able to stain it. The side pieces soaked up the stain and dried faster than I thought and they turned out a little darker than I wanted but it will do. The front side and doors turned out great. I hoping it get it all nailed into place tomorrow evening.
