SCoscarlover created the topic: fiberglass reproduction?

I was recently given a good size driftwood stump with roots. I would like to make a fiberglass cast of it so I can make a replica for a paludarium I want to make. My question is how to do it and what do I need. I want to put it in a paludarium for a mudskipper that I would like to get any help would be appreciated. I would put up pictures but I can't figure out how.

looks to me like no one here can help you out. or give you advice, I guess all I can say is good luck with the fiber glass, to me this sounds like too much work, when you can go to drsfostersmith website, or thatpetplace.com and get driftwood for cheap, and almost all the pieces look alike. I ordered two pieces of driftwood from there, and they both were the same looking.
;)

So instead of going out of your way, if your budget allows it, why not grab another piece of driftwood online?

Sorry man, Im just giving you my input, hope I helped

I never worked with fiberglass, but imo it's the same as making any replica.
Just take the wood, and cover it with liquid rubber.
Let it dry out and take it off the wood carefully.
Than you'd have a negative mould of the wood, that can be painted in with the fiberglass substance.

But I aggree with cotoandpaxi, why go through all the trouble, instead of using the real wood?

fiberglass cast or mould entail intricate details... if you are not
familiar of its composition and manner to develop the cast... not
worth to attempt doing it...those paper christmas horse and the like
are being done the same way but different materials
