i dont what its called in the uk but here its made to cover flourescent light fixtures in office buildings and such. i also use it as a divider when i need to separate my tank. here it comes in 4x2 pieces and sells for about $9. its fairly sturdy and still relatively easy to cut to the size you need.

here a pic for ya.

this is also a very cheap simple idea for a sump.....one big plastic box from a homeware store and inside a 2 drawr plastic box ..with the media in the drawr,s the tank water goes into the top drawr so when this overflows it runs down into the bottom drawr you may need some small holes in the bottom of the top drawr but not to much as it needs to fill up so the water coming in needs to be greater than the water going out of the holes causing the drawr to fill but still run into the bottom drawr then when that overflows it runs into the main big box fils up then gets pumped back into the tank with a power head....
