JÄGERDOG82 created the topic: tank almost blew out

I found a 55 gallon tank on cl and bought it for 30 bucks. I noticed a small crack in the trim glass looked great. When I got it home I set it in the yard and filled it up to make sure it held water. After about 10 minutes of being full I hear a loud pop and the trim and brace snapped and bowed out the glass and almost broke it. But got it syphoned out in time. Anyone know where I can get top and bottom trim for a 55 cheap?

I wouldn't trust that glass anymore

I have no idea why the water bill is so high

I have my buddy commin by thatworks on tanks professionally comming by to check it out it will be resealed when I build a 2×2 top and bottom frame unless I find plastic trim top and bottom cheap enough but I'm leaning twisted making one. But it will be resealed for sure before any water touches it.

Try JB weld on the plastic frame. It's ugly but it's tough. Again I hope that the integrity of the glass wasn't compromised while it was bowed. If your buddy gives you the ok then good luck 

If you've got a "Mom & Pop" type store near you, they are able to order you aframe, but you have to know exactly what type(AGA, Oceanic, etc) tank it is, as they all vary. You could measure the ID width of the tank, cut a piece of glass slighty smaller, silicone in place, let dry for about a week & you've got your repair. ;)

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

Thank you it will its tempered glass. That's why I always test outside and let it sit for @least an hour. I guess I won't be getting it set up as quick as I thought. Lol

I think I'm gonna build a frame to match a stand I'm gonna have to build I just got it because it was so cheap. I'm more worried about the 125 I'm getting Saturday I can't wait.

I think youll be alright on the 55 but id get a manufactured frame if you can. Been doin a lil tesearch on tanks lately cuz i picked up an older braceless 135. Glass will flex to the point where it breaks but if it does not break it will always go back to what it was. Not gauranteeing anything but from what ive gathered u should be ok....
