Eheim has lower flow rates than canister of the same caliber.

OBTW, what's Justin's email? Might want him to send us the pics to post here

I know the eheims have lower flow rates, and I feel quite comfortable that they know what they're up to. If you look at the 2217, it's advertised for aquariums up to 600 liters, yet it only pumps 1000 liters an hour, that's less than one and a half whole turnovers per hour (even less with media). But, in this case, with a hacked together setup, I don't feel comfortable that there is enough flow everywhere to keep things from going rotten. I have found dead spots in my cannister before, especially the lower corners are bad in this regard (and the smell  ). With even lower flow, this can only be worse.

These are pretty low quality filters, in many ways. I'm fairly certain others will handle this more gracefully, but I don't feel it's worth much here.

Very interesting findings Nina. Glad you tried it to see if you could get it to work.

X2 on getting Justin's email so we can get them pics!:D

Don't you have an extra external pump? I thought you did. Saw how this guy daisy chained two pond filters to an external eheim pump

I do, that will be the next thing to do. But to do that I need new pipes. Mine are now, thanks to the previous adventures, about 10 cms too short. Always something :)

In the mean time, I've stepped up vacuuming and water changes too keep things pristine. I can't wait for 20 September :)

Guys, please. I'm sorry I mentioned them, I was frustrated at that point - lesson learnt.

Anyway, as a conclusion, the husk is now rigged up with my external eheim, and all is going fine so far. Slight rattling from the pump against the plastic, as soon as I can figure out a good way of strapping it down i will.

In this regard, can I have the 'push to prime' button permanently compressed? That will really help strapping it down.

Wont having the prime button down permanently affect the flow?
