I thought it would be better to have someone with woodworking experience help me build the stand for my 120 gallon tank, considering the amount of weight it will be supporting.
but i dont think the guy helping had my best interests in mind. We whipped out the frame in about 2 hours, and it was ugly, uneven and didn't look structurally sound.
so i started over again. i had the lumber pre-cut at home depot, bought some basic wood working tools (clamps, powerdrill, etc.) and started following instructions i found on another web-page:
www.aquariumlife.net/projects/diy-aquarium-stand/56.asp
I finished the basic frame after a couple afternoon's work. here are some pics:
the first attempt:

pile of pre-cut lumber. long boards, cross boards and vertical supports:
pilot holes, pre-measured & drilled:
assembly process (you have know idea how hard it is to use and old coffee table for a work bench, especially when it is smaller than the piece being built!!!!)
The basic frame finished:
still a looooong way to go, it would go faster but i am being very particular and living by the "measure twice, cut once" mentallity.
If you have any input, or can see anything terribly wrong from the pictures, please let me know!!!
