Ok...I had an idea and was just wondering if anyone here has done the same or if you think it would work at all.

My brother bought a big 55 inch projection Tv...the ones in the big wooden case...well it stopped working and he gave it to me because I was thinking of gutting it out to make a tank stand out of it...you think this would hold...was thinking of adding some bracing underneath and obviously taking off the wheels so it sits flat on the floor. Think it would look kinda cool if it would work out.

Here is what i'm talking about...similar to the pic with all wood "frame":

not sure about the strength; but it may sit a bit low? I think the typical height is 30"?

Yeah...I was going to add bracing on inside to strengthen it up a bit I think...could also bring it up a little higher so the tank wouldn't be so low...just thought it would look kinda cool to make if look like it was a tv but with an aquarium instead.

Kinda thought about making an acrylic tank to fit perfectly in it...might look cool and be a winter project.

lately i find myself with a stack of CRT monitors and old tv's that dont work... i stumbled across this the other day and it has me thinking about trying it

Haha...thats pretty cool! You should try one out with one of your old tv's...would be a cool project!

The prejection tv I have sitting in the garage is just taking up room so I figured I might as well try and put it to use...thinking I might gut it out next week and see what I have to work with...worth a shot at least

Well I measured it out and If I brace the bottom (what will become the stand) so it can handle the weight, I could perfectly fit a 75 gallon tank into the cabinet once its gutted. Think it'll look kind of cool once its done!

Yeah I will definitely take a ton of pics so I can post them here...nice thing is if you can find these TV's on craigslist they are usually free if they don't work so it would be easy to do obtain one for a project!
