Hi Oscar fish lovers,
I'm planning a 9000 litre (2600gal) steel aquarium for my oscars and other fish. I need some help with the engineering. If anyone is willing to help run the stress numbers and deflection for the frame then your help would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

hi alex... i assume that is your nickname...if not, my apology.
i just want to verify some question so that i may able to give some
sound input/sugestion this project:
1) where is the bottom plate level? between the 50 and 40? or 40 and 70?
2) are you considering angle bar or square bar for the frame?
3) are you going to use all glass or flexiglass?
i had constructed a huge aquarium before but with front panel glass only.
in all area where viewing is not needed, i used stainless steel sheet
reinforce with ribs to avoid warping.
Thanks Paul,
Your tank sounds cool - any pics? Yes Alex is fine.
I have posted a detailed set of diagrams on the tank's web page that should answer all your questions and more:

There is probably too much detail to post here, but I'll put in the basics:
Tank:
* Soft steel 10mm frame consisting of wide flange beams and angle iron
* Plate steel or glass / perspex windows make up all panels
* Steel is welded together
* Steel is sealed with liquid rubber, not galvanized or otherwise treated
* Windows are seated in a gasket of silicone / polyurethane adhesive
* The tank has no stand, it sits on a concrete slab and is buffered by a layer of foam
My calculated lateral pressure on sides of tank (inludes frame)
