Hello,
I was wondering if you can add clay to a fish tank? The question sprung to mind when I was adding clay to my koi pond???
Is it possible or not?

someone will chime in very soon that will be of help

i looked over net and this is what i found hope it helps

feel certain if you use Barrium Free clay (from a pottery shop) for your own creations that would be fine. If your thinking is to make a series of rocks and caves and plan on "gluing" or "attaching" them together I would make sure you use aquarium adhesive. I would also take care not to allow any excess adhesive to remain outside the join. Although it claims to be safe, fish are indeed inquisitive and I have heard of cases where they will in time pick at and ingest this, and it could be a problem.

I only know of adding clay to Koi ponds to get rid of flukes.
That works fine.
Are you thinking of adding pottery clay for decorations?
If you would bake it, it would surely be fine for aquarium use.

Lol I was no good at pottery in school the fish would laugh if I made anything to go into the tank
yes I use clay for flukes e.t.c but also to polish the water to make it crystal clear, and the minerals also help the water condition

I am as Noddy, never heard of anyone using it in tanks. if anything I would have thought it would cloud the water? i take it we are talking wet clay? i cant see it would do any harm, many fish live in clay pits. but there are many easier ways to keep clear water with the right amount of minerals. the right type of filter for your size tank should solve Crystal clear water
