TOPIC: mesurments of prime

mesurments of prime 1 year, 9 months ago #107194

I was needing some water condtioner so i ran to the store and got some prime which is different from what i usialy get. It dosent say what to do with exact mesurments of like say small or normal water changes. It says that one capful is good for 50 gallons but being my tank is fifty gallons what amount should i put in for like a ten or twenty gallon water change. thanks everyone

I always treat the whole tank when doing a water change, so one cup should do just fine
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

Prime calls for 2 drops per gallon for treating. So 5 gallons would need 10 drops.

I must add that this is if you are adding the water straight to the aquarium from the tap. If you are filling buckets up first then you can just work out how much each bucket needs and then neutralise the chlorine, rather than adding it to the tank. However, it's so much easier to take it straight into the tank and just treat the whole tank.

Well i do use buckets and the bottle i bought its impossible to do drops its just a open bottle. But can i put the prime in before i put the water back in and even when i do a say 1/3 water change i should still treat it for fifty gallons?

the capful should be the right amount for 50 gallons; so you don't need to use a dropper

If you want to measure out and put in the bucket beforehand just go to walgreens or any other drug store and buy one of these.

1 capful is 5 ml which treats 50 gallons, which is what you have

Thus, 1 ml treats about 10 gallons.

So, if you are doing 1/3 water changes that means you are changing about 33% per change, which works out to 16.5 gallons per change.

If you are using a regular 5 gallon bucket that means you are using slightly more than 3 bucket fulls. (how big is the bucket you are using?)

So, 33% of 5 ml is 1.65 ml of prime per bucket, so just round it up to 2 ml per bucket.

I usually put it in the prime, swish it around a bit, wait about a minute or so, and put it right in.

ya i allready have a mesurer cap from one of my old water conditioner bottles and i would like to say my bucket is two gallons but it seems like one i have no idea. I also have a 5 gallon bucket my dad uses for like carpet cleaners and stuff like that, so i dont like using that bucket often.

It might say somewhere on the bucket but I would assume it is 2 1/2 gallons.

If you are not sure just grab an empty milk gallon jug and see how many times it takes to fill it up halfway. Then you'll pretty much know.

If you don't have that just use an 2 liter of pop. 2 liters is about half a gallon.
