Ive got a 150L tank in the process of being set up for my Oscar. Today I put in two heaters to heat the water, as one of the heaters is larger i added more warm water to the tank co make sure its covered. I then put in the water conditioner and about 30minutes later it had gone a cloudy white colouration. I tried the aquaclear solution but it has done nothing. There are no fish in this tank as of yet. But was wondering what could be causing this?? Ive not done any testing on the water yet but maybe I should? the same thing has happened to the smaller 40L (approx) tank which has 3 goldfish a fighter and my 1inch oscar (temporarily) with no known cause as well. It seems to have happened when the heater was turned up to a temperature all the fish are happy with. I stress the fish look comfortable and do not look stressed at all in the tank. So I am confused as into what it could be. Any help would be great!!!

hey there and welcome.
usually white cloudiness comes from a bacterial bloom, but since you just started the cycle, that seems odd.
Do you plan to run a fishless cycle, or are you gonna use live fish to get the cycle started?
You will need some ammonia/fishexcretion to start your cycle.

On the other hand I have to point out to you ,that a 150L tank will not be big enough to keep an oscar.
Oscars grow very fast and can reach an adult size of 13".
You will need a bigger tank to keep an Oscar happy and healthy.
We advice at least 220L per oscar, and that is with no tankmates at all...

Sorry if i burst your bubble, but it's better to know this, before you get an oscar and find out, that you can't keep it healthy and see the fish suffer.
You gotto replan, if you want to start out in the oscar fish hobby.

Im planning on a fishless cycle yes. I added a little of the water from the other tank last night also. I tried Algea cure last night and the water looks worse than what it was last night. I did my research on that, and yea i know he will get very big very fast. At the moment its looking to be a larger temporary home for him so i can sort out a larger tank this way im not rushing around to find money and a tank large enough to home him. . . It gives me some time to do that. I dont plan on have any friends with him either. Would doing a test on the water bring much light to the situation or would it be a case of bad water quality in my area?

Test the water. I am sure it will lead us to the answer!

If you are serious, then you will need a test set anywayz, so it's best to get a liquid test set for Ammonia-Nitrites-Nitrates and pH. no strips for they are not accurate.
Those testresults will indeed shed some light on the situation and tell us what is happening with your cycle.

IMO, you only need to put Prime/ waterconditioner into the tank and get some ammonia into the tank.
I do not see the need for aquaclear or algae cure.
This tank will only need time to get settled and cycled properly and that may take upto 6 weeks.

Hiya,

Thanks for your help everyone. I know its a big no no to put an oscar in an uncycled tank but i moved him into the larger tank 2nights ago and hes happier now!! The tank itself has now cleared up dramatically and the smaller tank is crystal clear! He loves hes new home and has been swimming around checking it out! i even swear its grown a little bit aswell. I stress all fish are happy and content. Maybe just a case of an overstocked fish tank? and from transferring some of the water over it has made the other tank cloudy aswell...

putting an oscar in an uncycled tank is a bad idea. But if you insist on doing it then daily water testing for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and daily 25% water changes
