I'll be honest I've never tested the water in my tanks before
In the old days tests where non existent so I would go by water clarity etc and maybe I was just lucky but very rarely had a fish die due to disease etc .
But after reading about test results on here and other sites curiosity got the better of me
I just completed my first test ( not strips )
and the results

PH 7.6
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
No wonder Goomer is a Happy Goomer

I have a full test kit and I rarely use it. They are good for when you are cycling your tank and finding out what the problem is if something seems to be up with your fish.

Apart from that as long as you keep up your weekly maintenance there is no reason for your water quality to be poor. That's what I find anyway.

The odd time I will test my nitrates just to see if my water changes are substantial enough still as my Oscars are growing still.

And once in a blue moon ill test the PH Just for the crack

Sure do I felt like a mad scientist lol

don't feel the need to do it on a weekly basis like Staffie said

I was lucky that I got a cycled sump filter with the tank set up

but all in all a nice feeling

those reading are very good, and getting my nitates at 10 is an allmost impossible job with my bioload, eventhough i do 50% weekly waterchanges.
Very good indeed.
