Morning All

I need your advice.

On Saturday I tested my water and some ammonia was showing up.

I think I lost some bacteria with all the messing around with my filter trying to get it quiet for the mrs. There was one night when I had to turn it off to avoid divorce. I did put an airstone and circulation pump into the sump to try and keep the bacteria alive.

I did a 60% water change on saturday and tested again on sunday.

Ammonia:0.5
Nitrite:0.25
Nitrate:10

The fish seem to be unconcerned and are all looking ok, so I left it yesterday to see if things were improving or getting worse.

This morning test results showed

Ammonia:0.25
Nitrite:0.5
Nitrate:15

The fish are still looking fine and pestering for food as I am feeding less at the moment.

So to the question. Should I do another water change now or leaving things alone as things seem to be improving?

i think you shouldt keep up with daily 25% waterchanges, until your ammonia and nitrites are back to zero.
Seeing you got some nitrates left, i suppose it won't take long for the bacteria to re-establish.
Just don't mess with or clean the filtermedia for now.

Never turn your filters off....if the noise is getting to much then wrap about 5 towels around the canister.

It works believe me...LOL
You have to be trusted. By the people that you lie to. So that when they turn their back on you. You get the chance to stick the knife in

Good Idea

Hmm, If I used wet towels....

Waterboarding combined with brainwashing techniques, a couple of weeks 'treatment' and she will never hear it again, her brain will simply block it out.

On a more serious note, done today's water change and drove 20 miles to the nearest place I could find that stocked seachem prime, that should minimize any damage while the bacteria re-establish themselves.

Noddy is right though johnny. Your mind is a strange dark place I wouldn't want to visit.

Not for long anyway!
