I am sold on the concept and the results. Cleaner hosing, less gunk in the sponges, the gunk that is there is loose and easily rinsed off. Your canister will smell a little different, not bad just a lighter smell than th untreated filter. No effect on fish at all that I can detect.

Ldy

To be clear, this doesn't replace water changes and vacuuming the poo. But it does reduce the amount of times you have to open your canister or other filters by at least 50%, which for me means about twice a year rather than 4 times a year before I started using it. It typically takes me close to an hour to rinse the brown gunk from my canister using old tank water. The tubing was also a pain in the arse to remove the stuff.

Same waste the N cycle always has Nitrate. You are just adding a more aggressive and fresh supply of good bacteria. If you keep your vacuuming and WC the same filter and hose cleaning is a snap.

I never saw a spike. My water changes are based on doing 75%-100% within 7 days to keep the nitrates around 10ppm; so I haven't seen an increase in my water changes.
