Well, I checked the ammonia and nitrate tonight.

I cant tell if it is the .25 or not. It could be 0 or 0.25. So I am thinking 0. :-)

The nitrate still shows 5. I think I am getting a handle on how to handle the ammonia issue. :-)

Nitrite was 0 as well. It is weird not doing a water change though. Laugh

From what i am seeing I am confidant you are cycled. you really do not need to do water changes until you nitrate get up to 20ppm unless you hate seeing poopies. long as you use the prime every change you can WC every day but that can be stressful on your fish. I personally do them every other day on my Oscar tank but I have a Pleco in there to and he poops all over the place. at 20ppm nitrate yu want to do a 75% change, that will bring your nitrate down by 2/3. or less than 10. i would still keep testing for awhile to make sure all is well, other than that i think you are good!!

It's obvious when ammonia is 0.25ppm.

It sure wasn't obvious when I was looking at it. I even had my wife look and compare it too. But I figure if I need to struggle to decide the color, and I can't figure out if it is 0 or .25, Ill take 0. :-)

If you have to struggle to look at it, it is less than 0.25ppm easily. Not much to worry about.

Guys, an update and then a few questions.

I added a 3rd XP-L to my 75 gallon tank. It was fully cycled.

Now with a few questions. Remember that I use the Liquid Prime conditioner.

So lets say on sunday I do an 80% water change, and add 3 capfuls of prime. Technically 1 capful is good for 50 gallons. So I am over dosing a little bit.

So then let's say on monday I add 1 capful of Prime to the water only.

Tuesday do an 80% water change, and add my 3 capfuls again.

Wednesday just add a capful

And thursday do an 80% WC, blah blah blah.

So you see my pattern.

Would this successfully allow me to maintain clean water, keep my ammonia under control using prime, and
also keep my Nitrates down by doing a water change every other day?

I know that my ammonia has water, and quite frankly, I do get worn out testing the water every day it seems.

So would this take care of that issue? By basically using Prime to help me with the ammonia issue?

If I am completely off my rocker, I will conform to whatever you guys see fit. I do want what is better for my Oscar.

If your tank is cycled, just put 2 capfuls for each 80% water change, and don't worry about the 0.25ppm ammonia from the tap water.

This would be fine even if you changed the 80% of the water once a week.
