Good news, my kribs have just had fry....bad news, the female killed the male :s

Question regarding water changes, should I still do my usual water changes with fry??

oh my...these females are dangerous ......

regarding water changes ... for me .. my schedule is 2 x @ 80% each a week .... i cut it down to 1 x @ 50% a week when i had fry's. someone else should chim in

Yes you still need to do water changes, just siphon water away from where the fry is, and make sure the temp is really close +/- 1.

Well I did a 1/3 water change last night, so hopefully the fry are still alive when I check later on today! I would hazard a guess that water quality will be particularly important for the fry?

Also, I am not sure if the fry are eating or not. I am currently feeding flake which i scrunch with my fingers into almost powder like substance, which then falls to the bottom. Probably causing a right mess in my tank, but I dont think there is any other way to do it?

PS is it common for a female Krib to kill her partner when they mate?

clean water is the key for thriving youngsters ...

yeah feeding fry's will dirty your tank... frequent gravel vac will cure that... i guess cichlids have a tendency not to play nice after mating ... my female convict murdered her mate after she laid eggs ... you'll need a bigger tank and hidden space for them...

Unfortunately I cannot give them a bigger tank. They are however in a 40 gallon tank at the moment which I believe is ok?
