Arrow head is good, I have them growing in one of my O;s tanks. They are growing like crazy in fact. Very fast growing. You can see one of the Arrowhead root clusters growing in this video. In addition to that I have them growing inside of an AC 110.

If you use arrowhead plant, get Syngonium podophyllum or 'Byrd' Arrowhead, not Sagittaria latifolia or Common Arrowhead.

I must admit I had wondered how to use Sagittaria as it requires high light and dies down over winter. I grow it outside in buckets over summer with a few guppies to control mosquitoes.

Have you ever tied to use water parsley (Oenanthe javanica) for nitrate removal? It is meant to suck out the nitrates very well ( dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2473811 ) but I think it may need too much light.
