nitrite gone too high because you throw away the biological media that host beneficial bacteria.
age filter media that looks like dirty is the heart and soul of the filtration system... you replace it with a new one... you make the system start from ZERO!

It says on my prime bottle to detoxify nitrite in an emergency use 5 times of dose so I poor 5 cap full of prime in my tank

no... not yet ... bit will if you fail to do something for them... yes... prime is an emergency alternative but need to make adjustment for the water maintenance.. a 25% water change daily could help ... just don't do anything about the filter

5X the dose of Prime will not take care of 20ppm nitrite, are you sure you did not mean 2ppm. You will need to do a large water change, add Prime, and add 1-2 tablespoonsof salt per 5 gallons. Salt will prevent nitrite poisoning for a period of time, a redose will be necessary every 48 hours.

no, i wouldn't do that... iodine may react with some waste by-product... stick to rock salt
