The night before i set up my new tank on the weekend i Surubbed and soaked some driftwood that came with my tank in a bucket over night to make sure it would sink, the tank was second hand so was the wood so i guess it had been used in the tank before. The next morning the bucket was all cloudly....cloudly not brown like when tanins are released. I tested for ammonia and the it tested 0.50 to 1.0
I have changed the water a couple of times since then but when i test it ammonia is still present.

Any reason for this?

the only thing that comes to mind on this is maybe the wood was cleaned by the previous owner with bleach or some other ammonia based product.

i think continual soaking and rinsing might dilute the ammonia to a point where it can be introduced into your aquarium but be sure that it completely ammonoa free before doing so.

it may be wood thats not suitable for submerging ..i.e. softwood or some uncompatible hardwoods thats rotting /decomposing causing a release of ammo.......

I guess i'll just keep an eye on the ammo levels and see what happens.

yep just be sure not to expose your fish to high levels of ammo for prolonged period of time.............. buy you knew that anyway....i dont know why im posting this thread to you BDC?????? LOL LOL ah thats it !!!!!! for the benefit of other readers.....
