In my last psot i mentioned ammonia being present in my tap water. Over the weekend i did a 20% water change and the ammonia is reading 0.0 in the tank however the nitrite is upto 0.25. I have never had a nitrite problem in the tank would it be due to the ammonia in tap water? what would be the best way to get rid of the nitrite????? water change????

probably hasn't got anything to do with your tap water since nitrite is a byproduct of ammonia so it is being created by your filtration system. These little glitches do happen occasionally and normally only last a couple of days and then go back to normal again. .25 is not really going to do any harm to your fish in the short term, long term it could cause health problems. You're probably better off carrying out a 40% water change, that should bring the level down considerably. Don't test straight after the water change, test again tomorrow. In the meantime, reduce your feeding considerably.

I don't think you've got anything to worry about, I'm quite sure things will settle down soon.
