hey guys i cant seem to get nitrite to zero. done heaps of water changes and still testing 0.25ppm......any ideas???

there are many factors affecting the tank water:
1) not enough water turn over (flow rate of pump)
2) not enough media in the filtering system;
3) high residual nitrite from the tap;
4) improper cleaning of the filtering system; and
5) shutting off the pump too long

how big is your tank? how big is your fish/es?
capacity of the tank filter?

its that newish tank with the two baby oscars that you have been helping me out with the last few days. emergency....re:please help.

i can just give you a run down of the stats if you want to.

it been only a week running.
iv got sum filter media and established gravel in there also
first few days no readings.
then ammo came up a bit....did water change and it droped off.
then my nitrates came up to 5ppm later that day.
then next few days did 30% water change each day.
ammo still zero
nitrate up to 10ppm and staying stable at that.
but now in the last few days nitrite has come up to between 0.25 and 0.5ppm
water changes only drop it to 0.15-0.25ppm.

could just be part of the cycling??????

yes...exactly... i'm about to say that... your tank is
in process of completing the cycle.... eventually, it will
stabilized. just do not over feed your o during the process.

so just ride it out....?
still doing that 30% water change each day thou hey???
