TOPIC: Weird Water Test

Weird Water Test 2 years, 6 months ago #59316

Hi All,

I just went and checked my water its been a while (2 weeks) and I am in week 5 of cycling. When I last checked the water I had ammonia at .25 and nitrites at 1 ans nitrates at 0. When I checked today I got ammonia-0, nitrites-0, and nitrates-0. What do you guy think this means?

Thanks,
Chris

ammonia and nitrites at 0 reading is attainable.
better check nitrates.... it is difficult to attain zero
unless you do not have fish in your tank.

usually, that means good water. though normally you would get a nitrate reading of some sort if there are any fish in the tank... though nitrate might be very low if the bacteria have just been established in the tank.
do you have anything in the tank yet?
all in all, if you had ammonia and nitrite before and have none now, it would seem your tank is cycled

yeah, I had ammonia and nitrate before however now they are not present. I have 5 tiger barbs in my 60 gallon tank. So you guys think my tank is cycled?

it looks like it is cycled. maybe test one more time to make sure.
since there are fish in the tank, a nitrate reading would be further proof of an established bacterial colony

Could be like with my liquid test.
I use a Sera testset and it usually reads 0, but it actually means it 's below 10.
10 is the next step on my reference chart.
And that's OK with me

A reading of zero for all doesnt sound right. You tank will be cycled when ammonia and nitrite are zero and nitrate is increasing. Retest and check your results (if you are using the bottle types follow instructions exactly). Dont change any water and keep testing until your nitrates start to rise and then you will have a cycled tank
