last night I tested my water and comes up that my ALKALINITY was very high. Around 300ppm! after doing some reading up on the subject, i found out that could be the reason why its hard for me to get and keep my PH down. is there any product that you can reccomend for me to get to help that out, because in a couple hours Im going to go get a few other things for my little buddies.

when you say your ph is high just how high is it. as long as its not to extreme i would recommend not doing anything chemically to lower it. fluctuations in ph is more stressfull to your oscars than a stable high ph.
to naturally lower it you could try some drifwood in the tank.

according to the STRIP the PH is at around 7.8 which i find to be disturbing and that is why im going to this pet store that in my opinion is an excellent place because the people there have been more than helpful to me everytime i went there and had questions or whatever . I know that the strip isnt the best to use but it is all i have and thats why im going to go get some things for them and one includes the better tests. i am trying all that i can to have the water be perfect for my little friends which they deserve because i didnt buy them just to see them suffer or die. i got them to live to their full potential.I want to be able to bragg to al my friends and family about how Im taking care of these fish and about how beautiful and healthy they are.

you should use a good tester for your ph but if it still come in under 8 i really wouldnt concern myself about it. in my opinion trying to correct the ph in your tank isnt worth the risk. a stable ph, even if it is on the high side, is by far better than a ph that will fluctually constantly.

if you have got very hard water then it's not surprising that your pH is quite high, exactly how high is it?. You can use peat or driftwood two lower pH so you may want to consider doing this rather than messing around with chemicals which could actually make your tank completely unstable.

300 ppm is quite hard, we know that kettles and shower heads can get clogged up with a limescale, I wonder if the same thing can happen with filters?

I've actually had this problem with a nasty build up in my community tanks...
I have very hard water with lots of nasty little minerals etc that build up. Over time you start to see a little limescale build up (for me on my waterfall filter where the water spills into the tank) and the water can get rather cloudy with high Ph readings.
I use part tap water with conditioners in it and the rest of my tank I fill with spring water. Usually 20% tap to 80% spring water. I've never had a nasty Ph reading or any build up on my filters since!
Hope this helps!

IMO Keeping your kH at 7 will help to keep your pH stable.

is there a specific drift wood that i would need to get to put into the tank or can i just get some from my dad because he kind of collects drift wood whenever he sees it?
