TOPIC: PH 8.0

PH 8.0 2 years, 5 months ago #67797

I noticed when I done my water test that my PH was 8.0 .... what ph is recommended and does my driftwood affect this in any way ??? All other results were normal: ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5
I have a 130G filtered by an FX5, with 2 baby Oscars and 4 baby SD
I do 2 water changes a week...wednesday gravel clean and replacing 15-20% and sunday 25% water change.
Have a safe and happy NEW YEAR to ALL

It might be a good idea to test your tap water and see what the pH is there. As long as your pH doesn't get any higher, you oscar should be okay. There are means and ways of lowering your pH, adding wood to the tank is one way.

I concur with OFL's advice. Some additional advice, Yes Driftwood can effect your PH as well as certain Rocks. Plants can also have a noticeable effect on PH.

are the fish showing any sign of problems? if the the fish are fine I would hold off doing anything and see if all is well long term.

my fish are acting perfectly normal, they do not have any sings of any probleams at all...but I was just wondering if the PH does go above 8.0 will it cause any problems??? If yes, what will be the obvious sings I can see. I prefer not to USE ANY TYPE OF CHEMICALS IN MY TANK........I have a big piece of driftwood in my tank...if I take it out will my PH go down?
