OK I have done a fair amount of pike fishing since I was a kid and know pike to be extremely shy of humans and are a very sensitive fish to noise and movement ...normally meaning you wont even get to see a pike unless you catch one!

My personal best was on the river stour in Dorset UK when I was around 12-14 and I landed a 29lb pike...photos will follow when I get them scanned as there where no digital cameras back then LOL

check these two vids out especially the second one and watch them in full screen ....I have never seen anything like this in my life..The fish must have become used to humans and maybe was fed from this same spot and is just not scared any more.

The fish looks around 25-30lb not sure where this is tho...

I read the story and i had to think about the video right away.
THAT's IN MY HOMETOWN!!!!!! NO KIDDING!
The story behind it is that the pike is in a no fishing zone and no rods are allowed in that pond.
The guys in the vid were just pissing about and tempting the pike with food for a long time and the pike didn't respond, until he bit him hard.

It just amazes me how the pike was not scared at all...considering there's no fishing there it should be even more shy than a fish in a fishery...is it some sort of treatment plant or drainage pond?

He is stood right over the water and pikes eyes are positioned on the top of its head as its an ambush hunter and will sit on the bottom waiting for silhouettes above this is why normally if you go near the water they vanish...not that bad boy tho lol!!!!

I think there were more vids of the time before the bite, for i know they were trying to get the pike to react.

and Staffie, your right, the fish is used to people and has never been caught in his whole life.

btw the guys in the vid are called the "F*ck-up team" over here.
Those guys used to go to our carppond, but took generators and amplifiers with them, and organized houseparties at the waterside and made a big mess of the place.
That was fun while it lasted.
Well, now we have not been allowed for nightfishing any more at that beautifull pond. :angry:

Yeah nikki we only fish for Pike in the winter hear to really as they are sluggish and dont feed often in summer ..they are backwards as the other fish are slow and dopey in winter...so pike feed more in winter its easier to catch their prey

Its catch and release hear in the UK but you can knock a jack on the head for food if nobody is looking

They are extremely bony tho and even if you manage to remove them you will find tons more as you are eating it as some of the bones are totally see-through.

Wear appropriate gloves or very carefully place your fingers up inside the gill cover and you should be OK to pick them up without getting chewed ...maybe a little blood but there teeth are so sharp you wont feel it

First time i caught a big one i was amazed and scared .
All the other fish i ever caught are pretty submissive once out of the water. But this pike kept checking my every move, very scary to see those eyes follow you to see if he can bite you...

I must admit their eyes have something about them...very menacing and dark
