ha ha ha Noddy, i haven't seen any arapaima here in the philippine wild.
what we have are mudfish or dalag (aka snakehead) together with catfish.
if you goggle for it, you will find mostly menu and recipe of them

definitely if we have arapaima here, it will not last long in our community.
people will feast on them. can you imagine people are now eating the meat of
giant pleco or janitor fish caught in laguna lake

But as I read Avilon Zoo is in the Philipines?

hey Noddy, i was force to look for this huge fish around my place...
and i was surprise they did exist here..not only in Avilon Zoo but
in some other similar places... here is some footage i've got...
not too good shot but you can imagine the size....

i know this is going to sound like bs but i actually had a dream that somebody put one of these in my tank and i wake up and i have this baby arapaima about 10 inches long... thinking oh crap what am i going to do with you.... then it ate my lil oscar... and i wake up mad as hell.... lol.... thats a bloody big fish! it makes me wonder since people apparently are breeding them if one day we can expect to find a dwarf variety... one that maybe doesnt grow 15 feet long lol....

i still have never seen them in real life, need to get over to the philipines someday

i saw some at the aquarium of the americas in new orleans before katrina. they were not even close to fully grown tho. just about 5 feet long lol.

and mind you Noddy, i stayed in the ocean park the whole day...just sitting there
and watching those fishes.... my children even tease me if i'm gonna live there.
i've seen also huge gar and redtail catfish over there.


i had a wonderful day.... btw... i have seen a huge oscar in one of the tank...
i am sure it is not smaller than 15 inches....

@win..those aripaima is already breaching the 5 ft mark...

lol one day when i win the lotto i may just have a tank big enough for a half dozen of them
