great looking oscar huh!

some point of concern... can you give us your water parameters...
there are some sign of erosion at the nostril area....
plus an scrape at the right side...some skin hanging in there...
keep an eye against infection...

thanks for sharing...

The scrape was from that day; for some reason he has started fighting his reflection in the glass. Water parameters are as follows: Nitrate 0ppm, Nitrite 0ppm, Ammonia .25ppm (little high). A while back I suspected HITH and headed it off with daily water changes and filter maintances; what you are seeing is what I had suspected and has been like that for close to a year without getting any worse.

thanks for the info.... now lets get some more info.....
how do you clean your set up?
0 nitrate in an establish tank means you are losing the cycle....
or you have a defective test kit....

one of my 3 oscar develop the same nostril erosion...
she was heal by soaking with met blue and salt med approach...

I am running an XP2 and an XP3. Doing about 50% water change per week ( have python kit). Cleaning filters once a month; mechanical is being washed with tap and biological (ceramic o's and bio stars) are being rinsed off with tank water.

Once a month cleaning canisters is a bit on the too frequent side I think. Are you finding them excessively dirty? What size tank do you have? Also, you may want to start rinsing your sponges in tank water as well.
