I found a thread named like this on MFK.
It was about these Oscars and i thought I'd share for this is behaviour i hadn't seen before.



The tank was at a LFS somewhere.

I'm not sure if fish behave the same as animals but many species of animals will shun an albino member or even attack it. I know up in michigan where I'm originally from there was a park where the deer got so used to people you could feed them. There was an albino deer there as well and you'd have to move away from the others to feed it because the other deer would attack it if it came near. Many other animals will do this as well...since its a recessive trait it is seen by the other members as being a weaker individual usually.

Like I said not sure if fish are the same way but the picture makes you wonder!

I think your right Ikkie, especially in fish as they seem to be quite agressive towards weaker individuals whether they are the same species or not.

I have a book on Oscars and (for what it's worth) - it says what is typically observed when multiple specimens of the same strain are kept together with multiple specimens of a different strain, the will stay more closely associated with members of their own strain.

I've observed my dogs on multiple occasions to seek out their own kind at the dog park and only play with them....

most animals do the same...same strain flocks together.... right now, i have
2 tigers, and one lutino.... the two tigers used to gang-up with the lutino...

same is true with the aro.... it always nipped the lutino but not the two tigers.

one more things, when i was a boy, we had a lot of cats in the house...and i
was surprised to see an alpha male cat eating the newly born kitten...the reason
as explain to me by my late father.... was because that kitten have more than two
colors.... the alpha male cat will never allow offspring with multi colors as that....

have seen the same thing in a few LFS around and all the tigers are up the front where the people can see them you dont even notice the 50 albinos hiding in the back.lol

lmfao, tiger oscars are nown too be more aggresive then albinos so they scared them into the cornoer

Thats very strange with the animals.

At the moment there is an albino maqpie at the golf club, and it gets along fine with the other hundred maqpies there.
its very cool bird.
