OFL created the topic: Connecting TV to a PC

I think I may have a VGA port on the back of my television which means I should be able to plug it into my PC. How much configuration is needed and which channel do I need to go to on the TV to see my PC?

if you do have a vga port on the back of your tv then all you need to do is to plug your pc into the vga port and switch the tv setting to pc and you should be done.

Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

I have done this with my TV at home. Basicly all you are doing is making your TV a big monitor. Hook it up like you would your monitor and change the TV input to vga or whatever it is listed under on your inputs. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse on my coffee table now. My computer is up on top of my entertainment center. I watch all my tv online now. I actually downgraded my cable package to the $9 service cause I can watch all my shows on the networks websites. I watch Chuck, Burn Notice and all my Netflix streams on my 32" Flat Panel now. It's awesome. I've been watching Heroes streams from the Netflix site.

failing that do what i do :P plug my laptop into my 42in lcd with a HDMI cable. Mind this requires a fairly new pc and tv ..as they both need the HDMI function.

What color is the plug? Blue is for VGA and white is for DVI. The only difference is the cable.

the only thing u need to worry about now is finding the proper setting under in the control panel for screen resolution. If that is not right, it will either be a black screen or it will be very small, the size of a regular computer screen. I have a 46 in Sony Bravia, 1080p, 120hz refresh rate. Some Bravias use 1024 x 768 pixels, other Bravias do 1280 x 720

Im sure a google of that will have it perfect! I used a VGA cord to hook mine up as well

as far as channel, I just used one of my inputs settings, it should say computer since it is for PC hookup. Thats what mine said.

It is a 19 inch television. Yes, it is a blue VGA. I have only got one of these connectors on the back of my PC so I will probably have to get a VGA to DVI converter like I have done on the other two PCs that I have a couple of monitors connected to.

Penn, I use S-Video. My tv doesnt have vga...only HDMI and Svideo. With vga or svideo you will need to run you audio seperately.

I am hoping to get a "VGA to HDMI" converter box so I can run directly from laptop to tv in high def with audio. the converter boxes are like 50 bucks on ebay.
