why is it that Windows sometimes decides that it is right and nobody is going to argue the matter? I'm trying to install a program on my PC but it keeps telling me that it is a potentially harmful program and will not let me install it. The fact that I seem to be able to install it on another PC running Windows 7 is a little puzzling. How can I turn off the security temporarily so I can install this program, I know it's not harmful, it came from a very reputable source.

Just turn your firewall off till you are done Hun... It is in your control panel!

That is the first thing I looked at, as far as I can tell, it is not turned on. I have also disabled security Center, still no joy

Is there an alternative method for loading whatever you are trying to load? Try sneaking it in another way?

i believe it is more of a syndicated system... if you are using a branded PC
like HP, Macintosh, Dell, etc..etc... windows always wants it to be authentic..
and other softwares are always considered pirated... and they created the virus
so that you will buy the anti virus which they also created... oh gosh!!!!!
we are all greedy human being....

next laptop i buy is gunna be a mac. they jus shight all over them. and ive been a windows man all my life

are you running a separate security/virus protection like Norton, mcafee etc? they will have there own fire wall, that's why it appears to be off but is most likely still on. and depending what protection you selected IE protect EXE or don't allow EXE files etc, any files from a new software will be seen as virus. turn off Norton/mcafee totally as that over rides windows security.

click on norton/mcafee control panel. you should have an option to temp turn off or just turn off.

when you get the message, "the file may be harmful" . look for a bar along the top or the bottom. you need to override the warning. click on the box and make the file/site trusted.
