Twice now I've tried to upgrade Vista 64-bit to Windows 7 64 bit, and twice now the upgrade has not been successful, what the bloody hell is going on? It worked on the other computer I used the same disc on a few months ago

Are you getting a stall at "transferring files, settings, and programs" with no progress?

I will try again tomorrow and give you a detailed report of what happens. When I first put the disc in, they asked me if I want to check for updates, and something about compatibility. However, throughout the whole progress I am not asked to enter in the product key, I'm sure I did it when I upgraded my other computer. Maybe I am not getting as far as the product key.

I think you get the key prompt after installation is complete...

It can take a couple of days after full installation to ask you for the product key.

Alternatively you can go in and Enter the product key any time you like.

What really annoys me with Microsoft is they think they are being helpful and clever by getting you to send reports to them when things go wrong, what the f**k for? They don't do anything about it, they are a complete waste of space. Instead of popping up little messages wanting me to click on links, why don't they tell me why Windows 7 wouldn't install, instead of just saying that the upgrade wasn't successful. The more I use computers, the more I realise that many of Microsoft's products are just absolutely rubbish. Bill Gates got lucky, he's managed to monopolise the market so every machine sold happens to have his product installed, I just wish someone would come along and burst his bubble with something a lot better.

Yes, I've got to admit that I do quite like Windows 7, just venting my frustration

have you tried doing a clean install instead of an upgrade.
you will have to reinstall the programs you want to run but perhaps that will be easier than the frustration you are currently experiencing
