OFL created the topic: F***ING NORTON SECURITY SCAN

This program is tantamount to a bloody virus or Trojan, it always manages to worm its way onto my computer. I absolutely detest this program, if I want to install Norton then I will download it and do it properly. What is it with the developers of Norton? They must be bloody desperate to get their program onto people's computers.

I like to stick with Kaspersky, Miles better than Norton and you don't see them using deceitful methods to get onto your computer will stop

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

Norton is pure crap, and with the latest debacle of them losing their source code to hacers a few years back, I trust them even less. I always endup using the likes of CCleaner to remove any reminance of them.

Eset is a great alternative, and doesn't suck up resources like Norton.

I use CCleaner myself to keep crap out of my computer and keep things running smooth. I use Avast for security cuz its one of the top rated free anti virus software and doesn't bog anything down. Its better than the paid versions of Norton IMO.

Hi OFL,
You need to download the removal tool from the Symantec website and use it to wipe all traces of the program off your hard drive and out of your registry. Just uninstalling the program from your control panel only stops if from actively running and it will keep coming back to haunt you.

Maybe Norton is good and effective but it consumes a lot of your system resources slowing it more that would a virus/Trojan do, they offer plenty of pointless applications added to the antivirus.
Personally I hate antiviruses, on my 10 inch laptop I don't have any I use to surf sites I trust, I never go to crap sites like porn or free downloads or cracked software, never had issues.
On my desktop PC I use for photoediting, there I need a powerful Pc, I don't have antiviruses but it's not connected to the internet, I never put any data on it except the pictures downloaded from my cameras, I never use USB flash disks on it, when I want to send data I use either memory cards freshly formatted in the camera or blank CDs.
The computer at risk is my laptop I have AVG antivirus installed, I sometimes have virus problems especially when someone gives me data on a USB disk, AVG is effective however sometimes I have to do it manually, autorun is disabeled, I set my PC to show all files even hidden, the virus is often visible as a hidden file or the file autorun.info points to the virus which I delete, with all this I have sometimes viruses, at university almost all PCs are infected....
