Do the headphones still work?

Can you get other headphones or external speakers?

@Benmcfadden
I've tried plugging and unplugging it multiple times front and back ports.

@ Goranothos
That makes sense, my monitor is hooked up to an HDMI cable..
I tried to plug different headphones and a different head set in, I have already tried different speakers.. no luck

@Rocksor
My headphones still work, I tried them on my laptop and they work just fine

@Gaarakilla19
I uninstalled, re downloaded, updated, and everything under the sun, still having a problem :(

Like I mentioned I think this might have something to do with plugging in my phone after I dropped it in the toilet.. The sound stopped working shortly after, although I don't know why plugging that in would have affected my sound but anything is possible I guess
Luckily I know how to replace a PCI soundcard, sounds like that is really my only option

Well, PCI sound cards can be had for cheap ($20ish), if you can still find them. Try your local Best Buy or Office Depot, etc. Or, of course, Amazon.com.

Like I mentioned earlier, your motherboard, like most manufactured in the last ten years, probably has a built in sound chip. You will probably need to go into your BIOS and disable that chip when you plug your new sound card in. The usual way to do that is to restart your computer and repeatedly press the Delete key. You will eventually get to a BIOS control screen, and then you're on your own, as every one of them is different, but they aren't really that hard to figure out. Just disable onboard sound.

Let us know how it goes.

So I haven't got the PCI soundcard yet, two days ago I plugged my headset into the back and it was working! I heard sound and I could skype again.. then last night it went out again and quit working. Weird??

It's gotta be my pci soundcard..

I got this desktop back in august so I should have a one year warranty with HP I would think, I may try to contact them instead.
