If I purchase a copy of Windows 7, I'm assuming that it is only licensed for one computer? can you purchase another license that doesn't cost as much of the whole operating system itself

To do it "properly" you would need win 7 family pack (not cheap)
another option and perfectly legal as far as i can tell,
months ago my son who is into gaming wanted to go windows 7 and i wasn't prepared to pay out for summat he would probably change,
so i went to ebay and bought a serial cost me £13 ish from american via email,
and it came same night, he loaded it and activated with the serial and 4-5 months later no problems
ie

my thinking was for the sake of £13 ish it was worth trying, my mate has since bought one and again no problem,

on ebay do a search windows 7 serial/key etc

a uk one here, slightly more expensive but again seems legal

i assume that the sellers are selling a serial that their company or one they work for has bought in bulk

also meant to say if you pay via paypal, chances of getting scammed for your ££ are slim

or you could download it and run this crack that removes the authentication process

Hey... i am a Microsoft Employee.... you can call up the Microsoft tech support and get a family pack which will enable you to install the same copy of Win7 on 5 computers. You would have to play close to $100 for the whole process. Lemme know if you need further help

i think you are a bit of a techno freak Penn, XP works just fine, don't get caught up with "the latest is the best" you just can't keep up in this world. you know the guy that build the Enigma machine at Bletchley park still uses windows XP. i quote him from a TV discussion on computer software, "XP is as good as you can get and is more stable than the rest. I have looked at windows 7 but am not convinced so I stick to what I know works. Vista didn't work for me" it may not be word for word but close.

i run a "few" computers a couple with xp, a mac and my laptop runs windows 7,
my son has his own computer for gaming windows 7 and the wifes laptop has windows 7,
windows 7 in my opinion is head and shoulders above vista,
the only reason i havnt changed my xp machines is becuase i have some programmes i NEED,
and as i only run them a couple of times a week its no great issue to change,
i have had no issues whatsoever with windows 7 compared to vista, and of course you can do the compatibility check
www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx...5&displaylang=en

as i said i have other computers and with vista the networking between computers was a nightmare, all went away when loaded windows 7,
all my hardware loaded no problems, (just be careful 32/64 bit)
if you ask me do you really need to change probably not, but security is important to me (hence the mac)

My lad is seriously into gaming and windows 7 is running everything he wants (vista wouldnt) and he was forever formatting with xp

re v_2rahjo, i thought the family pack was 3 pcs only?
and its the home edition, i run Windows 7 enterprise, and for a MS product i would have to say it's excellent

Hey, I have got my Windows 7 upgrade home premium. I was quite lucky, I should have checked before I bought it, I didn't realize that you have to get the right upgrade version. For instance I couldn't upgrade from home premium to professional, I would actually have to install a full install. Anyway, luckily for me I got home premium upgrade and I'm using Vista home premium. So, can anyone give me any good advice before I actually go ahead with the upgrade? I believe that all my files and programs will stay in place, although it's always good practice to back everything up.

have a look at the link i posted above, it does a compatability check on your computer before loading, 99% of the time if your going from vista then you shouldn't have a problem, and it enables you to backup your data in case you want to reverse,
hopefully should be straight forward
