MetalHead88 created the topic: food for mbuna?

i plan on setting up an african tank with all mbunas... whats a good food to feed them??

i understand that they need a lower protein diet that is veggie based. i usually use hikari but they only seem to have cichlid excel that would be good for africans.

i plan on getting them as small as possible to save money and for the joy of raising them myself.... so i think some sort of flakes would be good for the little guys.

any recommendations on food for when they are small and adults as well? thanks!

If you can find it...... freeze dried seaweed....they go nuts for it & it REALLY brings out their color.

Here's a link to a site that sells seaweed:

New Life Spectrum sinking cichlid pellets, its the best staple pellet for Mbuna IMHO under 35% protein

check www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/feeding_mbuna.php . For me, if I've mbuna, I give them spirulina flakes and I will put vegetables on the bottom of the tank so they'll graze.
