The Number you keep is dependent on your tank size. Also a 6' tank or longer help keep the colony peaceful and give swimming room. 1 male and 4 females is good for a 125...you could have a few calvus or Comps or some sand dwellers as tank mates. Fronts do best with other Tanganyikan fish or as a single specie tank. Fronts are mostly aggressive during mating time but they bicker a lot in between. Males average about 12 " but can reach 16", bigger tanks are better, good filtration is a must. Also select one type of Frontosa, if you mix types they will cross breed.

PM me if you need to find good fish or specific tank info.

If they do not know , you can post a pic and I can try to identify it. how many stripes does it have? most pet shop fish are Mpibwe or similar Burundi types. Pics are the best bet if the LFS has no idea.

He has 6 stripes. I will try to get a picture but he is very skittish and will swim away and hide if I get near the tank, and I have had him for about 2 months now, but I will definitely try to get a picture.

he doesn't get as electric blue, he stays mostly of a darker blue

I really need to see a pic...there are no five stripe frontosa of good stock.

Did you just change that? cause it said 5 a minute ago.

Six is much better.

yes I just changed it, I miscounted :P

and huzzah! I captured him!

Also, I have noticed that most juvenile Frontosa's I see are more vibrant white and blue, mine seems to always be dark, I'm assuming it means that he is stressed? I do have him quarantined in a 10g ATM because he does have a gill disease going on, his gills are very red..could that be causing him to be so dark? His home is in my O's old 65g with a pleco..
Anything I can do to make him less stressed? I have only seen him turn bright white only a few times.

If the LFS cannot tell you I would hazzard a guess and say it looks a bit like a Burundi type. As it gets larger it will show more adult traits. I'm a little concerned about the general appearance of this fish as it shows some signs of being a hybrid. The stripes should all be about the same width and spacing. if this turns out to be true the fish should not be bred. You could try posting a pic on frontosa.com for a better ID but I think the result will be the same. Here are a few of my Tanganyikans.
