Bristlenose do well, that's about all I know but I've never kept africans either. I think you want one with good defenses to keep the Africans from even thinking of messing with them and bristlenose have great defenses.

Panaque cf. nigrolineatus L027a/L330 ''Watermelon Pleco'' www.davesfish.com/images/Panaque%20cf%20nigrolineatus%20L330.jpg

These do well in rift lake water...but with any pleco in an african tank you will want bto bring the ph up slowly, over the course of a week or more or they will not do well at all.and they look nice too.

if the africans turn on it you will have to save it. Peacocks will be better than Mbuna and all but the most agro tangs do well with plecos.

Some of the Mbuna are better than a pleco at cleaning the glass....I have to look up which ones but I'll pm and post when I find the record.

yep, Plecos can be a hit and a miss with Africans, especially mbuna. Often times, they'll target the pleco's eyes and peck them out. Not pretty. It's doable with a bigger pleco, but can still be a hit and a miss. I've heard bristlenoses to be a better choice as well.

Another angle though, is that your africans are typically over stocked already, and now you add in a poop-factory.

Glad to hear you decided to clean your own algae :)

honestly i rarely clean my glass for algae. as long as their isnt excessive light algae really cant thrive so scrubbing your glass real quick every few months will do the trick. i have one of those scrubbers with a handle on it and i can clean all of my tanks glass in 10 minutes.... which is way less then what it tanks me to water change and i have to do much more.

theres an auto body shop near my house that has a 35 gallon community tank set up in their lobby. the sun comes right in through the giant window that is in the front of the shop and the algae is out of control in the tank. the owned cant do anything to keep up with it.

i say get the pleco if u like the fish itself - not because u want him to keep your glass clean for you.
