My Mbuna started breeding like crazy at about 2.5" and 8-10 months old, may be a little less age.as the males mature they get more egg spots. With mine anyone with 6 or more was breeding....just a rule of thumb thing.Very young females can breed if an active male is around but if too small they weaken too much during the holding and do not recover.

another good idea is to have a recovery tank for the females after they spit the young ....otherwise the males will be all over them to hold again immediate and many do not survive a 2 in a row pregnancy.

Some of the smaller guys, like the yellow lab, breed at about 2 inches already. Mine tried this, but they didn't hold the eggs to term. They're now holding them all the way at 3 inches.
