I'm not sure here, but I have seen them live with convicts.

I do have to respectfully disagree w/ the blanket statement that Jewel cichlids are "wimps" compared to the Rift Lake cichlids. Maybe some, but not if you have a H. Elonagtus. These guys are "pocket battleships"!!

I had a pair of these bad boys a while ago, & they are vicious, in breeding mode or not!!!

Glad you're getting it sorted out. I loved breeding my jewels, probably one of the best set of parents I've come across.

You won't be disappointed B)

Glad to learn more every day :)

You're right, though. Blanket statements are bad ...

Update!

sooOOOOoooo, I got rid of one of my peacocks, and the tank aggression died. I'm still trying to find someone to take the other peacock, but that will come with time. I tried the jewel breeding tank, my original one killed all three that I bought within a few hours.... :( .... It would seem he plans on staying single. So I'm still going to get rid of the peacock, the jewel if I need to.... Because I got 4 itty bitty victiorian's from a local breeder, and I decided I would go with that in the tank. I put them in and they get along great with the jewel and peacock, probably because they aren't seen as much of a threat due to size. So for the time being its workable, but probably not for long.

Yea, jewels can be finicky with who they'll co-exist with. I got extremely lucky with my pair. Just curious, you're sure you had male and females?

Males tend to be larger, and females smaller. Though just to look at them, you wouldn't be able to tell if they're juvies.

Jewels can be sexed by looking at the caudal fin; the blue spots on the edge of the caudal fin go all the way from top to bottom on a male, only 1/2 way w/ females.
