they certainly look like red zebra, and if that's the case, you should have more females per male to avoid agression after mating. i had them before and kept 1 male with 3 females. they breed alot and they grow pretty fast.
I did sell them all cause i wanted the tank to raise my own feeder fish (black mollys) but after having them for 4-5 months i went from 4 zebras to 26.

a lot about this story is odd - they also typically have zero maternal care for the brood once she spits them out.

I'm in the process of getting another tank for the africans.
You're right, they do grow fast! Mom still has everyone in check!

Well... No new tank yet as I had to purchase a new car but it appears I might have another round of cichlids on the way. One of the Cichlids has a mouth full of something...? I assume this is the female? If that is the case, the male has been the one keeping the other fish away from the fry even still today. Right now what I think is the female is not eating. Most likely due to what is in her mouth. Is that the eggs or live fry?

they hold eggs for 28 days, which then hatch, then they hold the fry for a bit after that. So how long has this been going on?

Every month and a half, from now on, you'll see this (unless something changes)

I just noticed a few days ago. I did see the male do his dance a few weeks back all the time. She's keeping her mouth closed but there is a ton of movement like she's juggling something around. I would suspect its live fry trying to escape.
I"ll get some picts up soon.

your fish have been breaking norms as we go, so if it is live fry, this will again be a new one. But a few days is just too short a time, it takes longer than that.

The female moves eggs in her mouth to keep them safe and aerated. So it often looks like she's chewing, to me.
