JBare created the topic: Venustus Update...and?

My tiny guy has grown a bit he's working on 1.5 inches but I feel like he's growing very slowly, is that normal or am I feeding him wrong? Does anyone know how long before he/she will start to show traits of male/female? I'm really hoping for a male, I just love the blue..

Also..does anyone know what this is? Saved him from deplorable conditions and want to make sure he'll be alright with my venustus..

I thought it may have been a N. Livingstoni, or possibly the Bumblebee cichlid,Pseudotropheus crabro , but neither quite match the color patterns of a juvie of either species.............so I'm going w/ hybrid.

You will have to wait until the Venustus puts on some size.....too early to tell.

Yes! That's him thank you! He is VERY docile which I wasn't sure if that was because of where he came from or just who he was. He very much so likes being alone. Thanks for finding me this!!

I've heard that they MAY start to show their colors sooner if you keep a few of them together. But if it's only 1.5" you've got some waiting to do no matter how many you keep housed together

As for growth I'm not sure what the norm is...i know they grow a lot slower than what i was used to seeing with my oscars. I recently got a couple of venustuses (?? Venusti?? Lol) and I've noticed one is growing much bigger than the other. They were an inch (maybe smaller) when i got them a couple months ago and the biggest is only about 2 - 2.5" now.

I've had mine for...maybe 2 months? And he has maybe grown a tiny bit. But then again I'm used to my Oscar who has grown from 1 inch to 5 in 3 months.. lol
