gorgoroth created the topic: looking into dwarf cichlids

so i'm looking into SA dwarf cichlids like the ramirezi and would like to know which combinations would work in a 20 gallon tank, this would be a planted tank with a canister (100g/h rated) and a sponge filter.
current inhabitants are a breeding pair of angels which would be moved into a 100g community tank as they've already produced more then enough fry :)

i was thinking something along the lines of 7-8 dwarf cichlids with 2x weekly 50% waterchanges.

7-8 and you will end up with a tank full of dead fish, i know they look small but they have some big attitudes and very territorial. I have my 3 wild rams in a 20h and honestly one needs to come out into its own tank cause its being non stop harrassed. Dwarf cichlids typically wont move up into the water column much, a perfect tank for them would be a long wide short tank. I wouldnt do more than a pair in a 20g.

If you wanted to do a 20g with 7-8 fish you might want to look into shellies or possibly some of the more peaceful varieties of apistos but that is still kinda sketchy

and this is why i came here before starting anything, i did some research on my own but nothing stated it as clear as this :D the problem is it's for my wife's dad and he wants an active aquarium full of fish. might just end up getting neon tetras and some zebra danios.

i don't think glofish are available anywhere in Belgium, maybe i can talk him out of his third aquarium and use it for myself as a backup quarantaine tank.
