Alright well hey guys I am really confused with my Electric Blue Cichlid. I just bought him on Saturday, and acclimated him to his new 40 Gallon home. He has a stone piece and a log in there with him and will not come out of the log! I Haven't even seen him eat! One time i removed the log and he spazzed and shot to the rock piece. I moved that and he literally buried himself in the gravel. I am just about to give up on him and send him back to the store here he can be properly taken care of! HELP!!

Most of the Mbuna do not do well alone, but try to leave the lights off and stop terrorizing the fish for a couple days till he calms down. This is why you normally put 20 Mbuna in a 55 and keep the most compatible 15. Also " electric blue" is a trade name , do you know what fish you have...can you post a pic? A few days of no food will not hurt a thing. Do not panic and keep flushing the fish into the open if it wants to hide. It will eventually get more comfortable. To kill the time you could read everything you can find about fish from lake Malawi. Good luck.

Yep looks like a demisona, pretty aggressive fish. You would be steps ahead if you got him a few friends of the same kind....but your tank is a bit small for a proper colony.

With demasoni it's generally, more than twelve, or only one. So while chances are that this guy will keep hiding while it's alone (but he will start eating in a day or two, or three) I don't think more demasoni are a good plan, since a proper colony will overwhelm your tank. Why not get a 55 and then keep a nice group of these with five or so yellow labs? Basically, I second Bassetman's suggestion to read as much as you can.
