gorgoroth created the topic: my 130gallon turned malawi

so I got my oscar and sd's into the 160 so they'd have that 30g more room to swim, and didn't know what to do with the 130g until a friend of mine showed my his dad's tank. it was a hap tank and i knew i needed to at least try it once so i started doing my research.
About 250 hours later i know what my stock would become, how the tank would be decorated and basically everything I needed to know about the types of fish that would go in my aquarium.

current stock is still very small, they're all under 2" and my tank looks very empty right now as it's a 6'x 20" x 2'4"
this is a pic taken when the fish were introduced and they were all hiding between the rocks:

stocklist:

8 Labidochromis Caroleus Yellow
6 Placidochromis phenochilus tanzania
3 Aulonocara stuartgranti
1 nimbochromis venustus
4 L144 (out of biotope but just for cleanup purposes)

Nice set up. I look forward to seeing the tank with the new fish. Would love to get one of these started one day. Make sure to post lots of pics.

Are those real or artificial rocks?

they are very much real, I was thinking of making a 3D background myself but wanted easy access to all the filtration etc so i decided to leave it.

Let me tell you, the venustus is an awesome fish. I have one who I'm pretty sure at this point is a female, I've seriously considered getting her in a species specific tank because I love her so much.

yeah definitely female, this is why they are called giraffe cichlid :) mine is supposed to be male, and serves as a brood controller, making sure the others don't have too many breeds in the tank. For now it's all still small, but i'm planning on setting up a small malawi breeding area once i get a few more tanks.
