Well I guess the Cyps like the sand because this morning several males are flashing their colors, I was beginning to think they were all females.

These get to 5-6 inches and have to be in a school. In the lake they are the natural food for the Frontosas. The males are territorial when breeding but only to the extent of flaring and flashing colors. Females are silver/brown and spawn mid water. They make great dithers for the fronts and Calvus as long as they can mature before the larger fish. These are from the Kigoma region and wild caught. The Tanganyikan tank is all Kigoma variants because as a child we visited Tanzania and stayed in Kigoma. That and I like the 7 stripe fronts.

As for Meatiness they are alot like ocean sardines, same shape same niche in the food chain. they would most likely make good Kippers, though a tad pricey to eat. I hope to have fry in 6 months so I can slip a couple in a mailer for you.

Mouth brooder, small batches 8-12 they have very large eggs for the size of the fish. Female suspends mid-water head down and catches the eggs as the are laid and fall past, male milts the area and the eggs are fertilized as the female breaths. female should hold 3 weeks or so. Fry are safe withe adults and will form a school around cover. in a community tank some fry will be lost to predation but a school should be self sustaining and still throw off enough to sell.

Very hard to get pics, they should have "Turbo" in their name :) . They can have no color or be super HD beautiful, all up to their mood.

As dithers they cannot be beat for a Tanganyika setup. the fronts are all out of hiding since I added them. They have a comical effect on the tank with the schools coming and goings. The also show great color when in the mood. They make water changes interesting because they try to swim up the gravel vac on cleaning, and play in the water stream when filling.
